Birthday
Merlin
That morning he got up early and particularly good mood.
was a special day and he had in mind to make Arthur a good, and I hope you enjoy, surprise.
had cost him no little trouble finding out when it was the birthday of his Lord, "Every time I asked around it was to create a general stampede, and everyone seemed scared and afraid to give him an answer.
Even Gaius, when he asked her, was evasive and did not give him any satisfactory information.
But he had not given up: and so, looking among the papers of former mentor, was able to discover a parchment where he had laid the birth date of Arthur.
And that day had finally arrived.
on tiptoe so as not to disturb the sleep of the physician, date the early hours, had left the house she shared with him to head in the apartments of the Prince.
First, however, had decided to make a detour in the royal kitchen to ensure your Lord and a rich hearty breakfast.
Taking care not to upset the heavy tray, he opened up the door of Arthur's room, slipping in with furtively.
He put the Prince on the big breakfast table in the middle of the room and approached the bed where Arthur slept blissfully unaware.
smiled to himself, pulling from his pocket a small package of square shape, resting it on the pillow next to her face Arthur.
He hastened to open the large windows to let in a little 'light back to the bed of his Lord.
"Sire?" I called softly, softly. "Sire, it's time to get up!" Spurred him lifting the tone and shaking the shoulder.
Arthur moved up, changing position, turning the other way.
Merlin huffed, putting her hands on her hips and raising his eyes upwards: it would never change, even though he was always more than a year of the usual ass.
Without surrender, Merlin pushed up the sleeves of his shirt and knelt on the bed, returning to vigorously shaking the Heir to the throne, calling, speaking close to his ear: "Arthur, get up, it's late!" At that
annoying interference, Arthur jumped up to sit, Merlin dropping on the floor, then looking so grim.
"What are you doing?"
"I wake up like every morning, no?"
Arthur moved a hand in the air as if to chase away an annoying insect.
"I mean what are you doing there on the ground!"
"I We've thrown you, after I tried to awake. You are a bit 'annoying, but I succeeded in my aim, "he explained calmly and give a smile that Arthur did not convince at all.
usually had to say about his asinine ways and could not stop to scold him until he threatened not to send him to the pillory if he had not been silent, and instead, now, even smiling at him.
"Why are you so cheerful this morning?" Said then still not sure of wanting to know the answer. Merlin
he just keep smiling, carrying his arms behind his back and pointing with a nod of the head bed.
"Mh?" Arthur looked at him without understanding and it was decided to follow the trajectory of the look of your servant, and found a white envelope on the pillow of raw paper.
He picked up the small object and looked dazed, turning to Merlin a dumb question.
"Do not open it?"
"Should I?"
"Well it's a gift!"
"Who?"
"For you, Sire!"
"Why ?
Merlin shook his head and walked over to him a passage: "But for your birthday, of course! Come on, it's nothing dangerous! "Urged him smiling happily as if, instead of him being the sender of the gift, he was to receive it.
Arthur explained that he stiffened and shut your mouth, jaw straight and proud and stern gaze focused on his servant.
"I do not want," she said holding out with a hard shot in the arm the subject Merlin.
"Please?" The Moor was clearly taken aback.
"I do not want to! Take it Back! "
" But, Sire, I've got for you is for your ... "
" I said Take it Back! "
Arthur interrupted him sharply raising the tone of voice.
Merlin pulled back with his back, unprepared for such a reaction.
"Sire," he asked confused, invoking that call in with all his heart.
What had happened? Why was reacting so preposterous?
Arthur, his face straight ahead, focused on a point over the shoulder of the boy still had their arm, waiting for the other should carry off the palm that enormous weight.
Although Merlin would have liked to scream against, once again, for being arrogant, pompous ass and a wooden head, he did not have the strength.
In her mind she waved a thousand questions that he knew, with Arthur in that state, with that wall of regal crossroads at which he is cold, never received.
stretched up his arm, holding the small box, and lowering his head, a faint whisper, "Sorry" to the address of his Lord, is preparing to leave the room.
In parting, he was tempted to leave their gift laid on the table, but, mindful of the reaction shortly before, in silence, came from the apartments of the Prince.

When Gaius saw him fall so early in his quarters, surprised, asked the young magician explanations.
"Merlin, that dark side, what happened to you? The Prince is right? "To that question
Merlin did not know what to say.
"Gaius ..." he began sitting at the table, taking place in front of the surgeon who looked in his eyes trying to figure out what was going to say.
"This morning I got up early to go to the Prince. I wanted to surprise him because ... because today is her birthday and I thought ... "Gaius
twitched and Merlin broke his story.
"But why all react the same way? Because no one has ever wanted to tell me that this was his birthday? "Said exhausted and a bit 'frustrated, putting his hands on the table that held even the gift that was to Arthur.
"What is it?" Said the old doctor.
Merlin shrugged: "A gift for Arthur, of course, but he did not wanted. When I mentioned the thing had a strange reaction. I had never seen so it seemed ... it seemed very angry with me. He did not even look in the face "summed up disheartened.
Then, he lifted a stricken look toward the court physician and asked, "Is there anything you do not know and which instead should be made aware?"
"Merlin, boy, how did you find out what day it was today? "
" I peeked between your cards. "Gaius
snorted and was about to scold him when Merlin interrupted rising abruptly and explaining its reasons.
"I was wrong, yes you are right, I never had to do it, but nobody wanted to help me find out when the Prince was born. Everyone is always so vague and you also do not have certainly helped me, nor said anything and I had to arrange. I do a good thing for Arthur, I thought it was important for him that day. The day of his birthday should be a happy event, my mother taught me this. He always said that the birthday is a gift. A gift of life, I thought ... "his voice faded slowly returned and Merlin to sit down.
had it all wrong, he had understood, perhaps in the Kingdom and one of the real that day was not so significant, indeed, perhaps all their days were not a party and gave him the value that he had always given. Maybe ...
"Merlin ..." Gaius
broke in between his thoughts and smiled condescendingly.
"I understand your intentions and are very admirable, but you see, there's one thing you need to know about Arthur and to this day ..." Merlin nodded
carefully without interrupting.
"You know it that the queen is now long gone ... "he began.
"Yes, when Arthur was very small I guess. He never talked about her ... "
Gaius nodded.
"Lady Ygraine died when Arthur was very small, Merlin, but is not really correct to say so. The Queen, unfortunately, died after giving birth to her son. I have assisted, it was a very difficult time for her and not have it done "the doctor paused, watching the Wizard look stunned, parted lips.
"Arthur feels responsible for her death and since he was small, throughout the Kingdom this is a day of mourning, not celebration."
"But ... but it is not right and then ... Arthur is not guilty, he ... "
" Quiet boy, quiet ... I know. I know what you mean. I tried several times to speak with Arthur that, I tried to explain that he is not the cause of the death of his beloved Queen and that she was happy to see him in the string in the arms before leaving. It was a brave choice and a great proof of love to Lady Ygraine, and yet, neither Arthur nor King Uther himself still unable to forgive, "concluded the physician.
"You mean ..."
Gaius shook his head: "Uther blames himself for what happened ... was very fond of his Queen."
"Too? It means that the King Arthur thinks that ... "
" Arthur ... He does not think so, there was a time when Prince was still young, his father could not face him. Because it reminded him of his beloved wife and lost. They never celebrated with a birthday of the Prince and this has weighed heavily on the education of both Arthur and on their relationship. "
" But this is unfair, Gaius! It is not ... it's all wrong. They can not continue. Arthur can not continue living like this! "Merlin stood up again, impulsive, clapping on the table, lowering his head.
After a few moments of silence, Merlin lifted la testa e guardò Gaius negli occhi con determinazione.
“Devo andare!”
Arthur lo osservò, sorpreso di vederlo lì, e ne seguì i movimenti rapidi, mentre dall’armadio estraeva his dark leather jacket and threw it on him no respect.
"Wear them!" Peremptorily ordered him, daring him to respond.
"Merlin ..." admonished the Prince, but the Wizard did not discourage.
"Sire, please," she tried to be accommodating. "For once, do what you say and .... trust me ... "
Arthur stared at him, peering into those blue irises and determined, and did what was required.
Merlin took an imperceptible sigh of relief and the features of his face is stretched slightly.
"I'm going to prepare the horses," said the servant before taking leave of him with a bow.

When Arthur joined him at the stables, his horse was ready and waiting for him: Merlin took over the reins of leather, urging his eyes to his Lord to mount.
Arthur slipped the gloves and with an agile leap he prepared to leave. Merlin gave him a nod with his head and mounted in turn on a second foal.
"Where are we going, I can at least know," asked the Prince after a while they were running, and neither had uttered the word.
"We're almost there!" Assured him the dark.
"It's not what I asked, I know ..."
"To make peace with a ghost!" Cryptic "said Merlin, creating a slight back-heel to his horse, spurring him to stretch up.
Arthur quickly joined him, looking serious and determined expression on the face of a servant.
When looking back in front of him, his heart skipped a beat and strong hands shook the reins, forcing the royal stud at stop.
"What are we doing here?" Merlin asked that a few meters ahead of him, fell from his horse and tied the harness to the trunk of a tree, before turning to his Lord.
"Get off, I show you something!"
"I'm not going there. I do not understand what you are made up his mind today, Merlin, but know that when you return to Camelot the whole square will be there waiting for you! "Threatened him, by making his horse back down.
"It serves me right," cried Merlin to ensure that their voices to join him. "It is good that you want to punish me, sending me to shame. You can even make me spend the whole night in prison! But, please, Arthur, come with me now, "he asked. He saw the Prince
stop, straight back in the saddle your steed, proud as a prince must always be, and after a moment of suspended time, the Magician watched him get off the horse.
"Thanks!" He said when he turned towards him.
Merlin's no need to show the way, traveled a little beaten path, entering a small clearing where the big trees and some flowers of the season marked the transition until a smooth white stone building funeral.
They stood side by side in silence to observe and give respect to the tomb of Lady Ygraine.
Merlin Arthur looked furtively observe hard-nosed the engraving on the tombstone and then spoke: "Do not be so sustained."
"Why did you bring me here, Merlin," asked the future king of Camelot without taking his eyes from what he was seeing.
"For You, Lord for your heart ..." he explained.
"My heart does not need this ..."
"Yes, however, must be healed ..."
"course, it will not heal, Merlin," Arthur clenched his fists, arms helpless at his sides, his eyes still hard, blue eyes bright and fierce.
"There is nothing, nor medicine, nor the same magic that can heal the hurt I have inside," he said.
"It is here that wrong ..." Merlin began, approaching him and taking her hand, leaving its slipping in it and stringesse.
"The only person who can help you get through this and forgive you and you are the person who is in front. Your mother ... "he continued before Arthur could argue something or stop it. "... Your mother did not accuse you of anything. There feels responsible for her death. "
" But it's my fault, if he had not me ... "
" If you had would have been unhappy. Have you ever asked your father to tell her? "
"My father? He is the first to feel guilty! "
Merlin shook his hand a bit 'stronger and continued:" Have you ever asked Gaius? He was there, he knows what she has tried to give you the light, as you know how happy he was holding in her arms. "
He took a small break and, without hesitation, replied," She was happy, Arthur, you loved her very much. More than his own life. You are here today for her. You live day by day to make it fair, to show the strong, brave man and a pure heart that he would surrender, and makes it, proudly. "
A little pause for breath, then the servant went on:" The love of a mother to a child is not quantifiable. It would not be happy in knowing how to sad to hear that you accused of his death, because she thinks that it is not so! "
" And how do you know? "Arthur was still reluctant to get rid of those chains that is self-imposed.
"I know, because they are the same things I always said my mother. I never doubted her, and you should not do it with yours. I know it can be difficult, I know you're thinking that I have no right to talk like that and say these things because you think it can not understand you, but you are wrong and I do not want you to suffer more. You have already paid enough for a fault that you did not. Instead of thinking about sad things should instead be proud of you and do everything you can to continue to grow along the right path. "
Merlin paused, looking at the face of Arthur: His expression had changed, as if themselves seriously reflecting on his words.
Certainly he was not sure, Merlin, Arthur would have easily changed that opinion of himself, but at least, he hoped, indeed, was now convinced that his heart was lighter.
It would take much more than just the force of his words to help Arthur, was to speak with his father, also, to establish with him a true father-son relationship that was stronger than that between the King and Prince, but felt that something was beginning to change and, over time, Arthur and his father would understand.
If he had known a spell so powerful as to enable him to meet his mother and talk to her, Merlin would have also risked the gallows, just to make him happy and take away that great weight he carried in a long time. He had no doubt. Hearing
hold in his hand become sweeter, the Merlin slipped away quietly away to allow Arthur to be a little 'alone with his mother.

Standing next to his horse, he stroked the mane Merlin thoughtfully. When Arthur
touched his shoulder to reveal its presence, the dark jumped, blushing slightly for the miserable figure.
"I have not heard coming, you ready?" He asked.
"Yes, we can go," Arthur gave a slight smile and when he was putting on the gloves again, Merlin stopped him.
"Wait, I ... there's one more thing ... "
Arthur watched him rummaging in his pockets and hand him back the package that morning he had found on the bed when he wakes up.
"It's for you, happy birthday!" He repeated.
Arthur hesitated a moment, then took the small object and discarded the plan.
"You like?" Merlin asked anxiously, as the Prince pulled out of the box a round object inscribed with the emblem of the Pendragon.
"Merlin ..."
"It a paperweight ... I know that maybe something may seem pointless, but ... "
" Merlin? "
" ... I did do just for you, maybe one day you will need when you are the King and maybe ... "
" Merlin? "
" Yes? "
" I really like, thanks. "
Merlin smiled.
"Happy Birthday, Arthur!"

End

Some notes I think are necessary: So my story is not placed in any season in particular, although the summary in the mirror, I've put the first set as a backdrop. I was very dubious about the success of this plot, I really liked the idea, but I never ventured into such a situation, so introspective and intimate. They assumed that Merlin did not know yet of the birth of Arthur, in effect, you know that the Queen is no more, as Gaius says the same, but his information is very limited and then Merlin will only in the middle of the second season the truth about the birth of Arthur to the merits of the magic.
Then, when one thinks of Merlin spell which would allow Arthur to meet with his mother, I obviously took inspiration from the episode 2x08 'Sins of the Father' which actually talks with Arthur Morgause Ygraine.
Also with regard to the relationship between Uther and Arthur, I tried to explain but without putting too many irons in the fire Referring to an episode of the second season in which it is a bit 'outlined the attitude of the king about the birth of son dl. Now, it should be the same as 2x08, but I confess to not affect me, I have not covered before writing the story, because I did not trace any passage or summarize the plot of the episode concerned. I only had a general recollection of the plot and I are based on that.
Finally, for the gift I had several beams on the subject (yes, even on that), but in the end, I think this was a gift from Merlin very .
